Spice up your teleworking days at home!

So many people are home teleworking and the days might start to feel slightly like those from the movie Groundhog Day (a really good friend put it that way and she's right! I've been using a different coffee mug - usually one I got from a trip I've taken - for the weekend just to remind myself that it is in fact the weekend...because the tally marks on the walls just aren't that exciting by the end of the week lol). Why not spice up the days a bit and start looking for ways to revamp what you already have in your! It's also a nice way to add pops of color and the appearance of a fresh new piece without the expense of one. Come on Midge....I know you've been dying to repaint that worn out shelving unit with a bright color! And, even in Florida, the weather should start at least thinking about getting just slightly cooler (but more importantly less humid), which is a much better situation for painting. Even if you paint something outside to keep the mess down, try to bring the piece into a place where there's air conditioning for that last bit of curing for a night or two. The low or no humidity will make the paint dry thoroughly.
My workshop in Florida is resting right now. As many of you know, I've moved to DC for a spell...just as I got my house done exactly as I like and my yard is a dream of relaxation, I move into an apartment in the city. Don't get me wrong, I love my new space and it's given me an opportunity to branch into some different decorating genres....I call it Modern Mid-Century Modern World Traveler :) Suits me actually...I'm combining clean lines, funky mid-century and older pieces, flower and bright prints, with earthy and medium wood tones...my apartment is across the river from DC itself, but I can still see the Kennedy Center and I love to see it all lit up at night...feels like I should be walking around with a martini...pinkies up please dahhling! Even though I am exploring a new city and a new decorating style, I am still very much looking for my next project. I finished one of my latest projects before I left and it's now in my cottage in Florida....a cream table and chairs, with floral print seats and gold-painted rattan backs...love it! Here's a picture :)

I am on the hunt for a place to be able to continue some furniture restoration while here and in the meantime, beginning to create a vision board and getting inspired. Also, I had a friend contact me about helping solve a dilemma she had of making an indoor furniture piece suitable for outdoors...she wants to create a butterfly nursery! What a creative idea - love it! So, I researched and apparently there is an indoor/outdoor polyurethane! Of course, it probably won't prevent the wood from rotting completely, but a few coats (each one must dry completely in the least humid place possible) and placing the wooden furniture piece on something metal or plastic so that the ground does not directly touch the wood, will likely help to preserve it a little longer (no guarantees but that's the exciting risk of it all! :) ) I couldn't help but picturing a colorful piece that looks like it came right out of the Mad Hatter's home in Alice in Wonderland! I can't wait to see the final product when she finishes it! As I see ideas here for my vision board, I can't wait to share them with you! In the meantime, if you have a project you're thinking of trying, or want some help brainstorming, send me a note, I'd love to help! Until we chat again.....get your martini out Midge and enjoy one of the epic sunsets of DC!
