This awesome side table opens up and has a drawer. It's so interesting, but it has a little part missing on one side. For years I've put this side toward the wall and accepted the brown color, which is gorgeous, but recently on the advice of my Super Sisters, I put the piece in my kitchen, on a back wall, and when I did it seemed a bit out of place and I thought it had to be the color...it just seemed sad, as funny as that sounds. I love blue and turquoise and have pops of that color throughout my house, including my kitchen....that's when it came to me! What if I paint it a blue/dark blue/black/maybe a touch of yellow color with a wash and shellac look? Then I can put my cookbooks on top with some cool bookends and hang this awesome ode to a coffee cup piece one of my sisters made for me on my wall above it. Yes! I thought. That's it! But, it seemed so weird though to paint over that lovely brown stain.....Then I shared this idea with a good friend of mine who is also very interested in historic preservation....and she said, but it's already vintage....and you know, she's absolutely right. So, I decided that I would maybe find a colorful material that I can place on the top of it to add that touch of color. It's still in the works as I search out that perfect material (and bookends)...but in the meantime, it looks absolutely fabulous and it's so practical holding my cookbook collection (yes, I love to cook...errr experiment....kind of like a mad scientist sometimes unfortunately for my guests) There's a moral to this story....sometimes the best "re-do" is to not do a thing and appreciate the piece in it's current state (it is the art of renovating after all).....a near miss for this awesome piece and definitely a worthy save!
